Craving Your Favourite Takeaway? Make it a Fake-away instead | Food

If you’re like most people, then you probably have some kind of guilty pleasure when it comes to takeaway food. Perhaps you love chicken nuggets from McDonald’s because you’ve been eating them since you were a kid, or maybe you absolutely love Thai food because of the spices. Whatever your favourites are, it can be very tempting to pick up your phone and make an order on your favourite meal delivery service.

But stop right there! Instead of spending ludicrous amounts of money on takeaway food, why not try making it at home? You’d be surprised at how convenient it can be and also how simple some recipes are.

It’s more convenient than you think

Many people seem to think that cooking takes a lot of skill, experience, and knowledge. While it may be true in some cases, the reality is that most people can get by cooking at home with just a recipe and some motivation. For instance, there are plenty of Instant Pot recipes that can make family favourites such as ribs and brisket, and you can buy ready-made sauces for your favourite Chinese and Japanese dishes. You don’t need to make everything from scratch (though we would recommend it for the best results!) and it’s surprisingly convenient to just buy most of the sauces and ingredients from your local supermarket.

You can try out different ways to eat your favourite takeaway

Once you start cooking, you’ll realise just how creative you can be with all of the different flavours and ingredients it uses. For example, this Thai chicken wraps recipe is a great example of taking something exotic like Thai chicken and using it in a simple wrap that is convenient to eat and very simple to make. Similarly, you can take your favourite sauces from different dishes and try and mix them with your favourite meats and vegetables. There are so many different combinations to try out that you might stumble upon a new favourite that the whole family loves!

You can save a lot of money making it at home

Perhaps the biggest reason why people decide to make their favourites at home is that they know it’s cheaper. Buying all of the fresh ingredients and spices to make your favourite takeout food is a fraction of the cost. Yes, you need to spend a bit of time and effort to make it yourself, but it’s going to be much cheaper and you’ll also learn helpful cooking skills in the process. The value you get from cooking at home is much greater than just buying takeout food. Of course, that’s not to say that you should never order food, but the default choice should be making it yourself and getting a takeaway should be reserved for when you’re really feeling lazy and just want to eat!

It’s understandable if you want to continue buying your favourite takeout food, especially if it’s something that is difficult to make. However, we do urge you to try cooking it at least a few times because you might be surprised at how easy and fun it is to make!
