As I write this, we are waiting for COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted. We’re allowed to meet outside as a group of up to 6 people, but these tips can be applied to pretty much any Spring or Summer garden party. More and more, people are hosting events, like birthdays, engagement parties and gender reveals at home.
It gives you more freedom with who you invite, what you get up to, how you decorate and how late the party goes on! It can also be a lot more cost effective than hiring a venue and paying for a bar and food.
Garden Party Decor
It’s important to decorate your garden for a real party – otherwise it feels a bit lacklustre. Nowadays, people take party decor very seriously. Choosing a colour scheme and sticking to it across everything from ballon arches and banners to cupcakes and streamers.
It’s OK though this doesn’t have to be expensive. As always, there are places where you can buy all these bits and pre-made balloon arches, but it is just as simple to buy balloon kits and make them at home. You can find fonts, or emblems on this fonts for free website to design your own invitations, banners and food labels for allergy’s. Then you can simply print them off at home or if you have a Cricut, you could even make your cake topper!
Party Food
For party foods there are a lot of options. You could stick to a tradition things like a BBQ, or english Garden Party menu, similar to afternoon tea, with sandwiches, scones and other sweet treats.
Or you could take it one step further and create a grazing table. These have become hugely popular recently and are very aesthetically pleasing. Loaded with fruits, cheeses, cured meats as well as sandwiches, biscuits and yummy desserts, they’re likely to have something for everyones. It also means that people can grab some bits as and when they fancy, and encourage people to get chatty while they choose that they want.
To theme or not to theme?
Some people love a theme, others are not so keen. It can be as simple as having a dress code where everyone wears white, think Diddy’s annual White party. Or alternatively, you could commit with something like a 1920s vintage theme, pirates or take it even further and turn the whole event into a murder mystery.
Signature Drink
Now, having a signature cocktail may seem like a lot of effort, but that’s not necessarily the case. Some people will hire a bar tender to cover serving drinks and a couple of staff to take round wine and pick up glasses. If that’s the case, talk to them and come up with something simple and quick for them to make. Alternatively, pre-make the cocktails and put it in a self service pitcher, or one of those fancy tap barrels.
The cocktails can be incorporated with your decor by choosing one by colour or your theme. For example serving a Rum punch at a Tiki Party.
