Top Tips for Dressing Your Bridesmaids

Congratulations on your engagement! You’ve got a lot of planning ahead of you now and you have to think about who you want to bring on board as your bridesmaids. The girls in your life are going to be there with you through this next transition. Just like they have been through every other transition with you. You want them to have a good experience being your bridesmaids because as much as this is your big day, they’re going to be a big part of it.

Dressing your bridesmaids is going to be one of your biggest concerns, and whether you theme your wedding around a colour or a time in your life, you don’t want the girls who love you the most looking like Shrek extras! So, here’s some top tips for dressing your bridesmaids:

  1. Don’t worry about matching. You do not have to have a bunch of bridesmaids that look like you’ve clicked copy and paste. You can choose a colour and get them all to choose their own style that suits that colour. Black bridesmaid dresses, for example, are perfect because you can choose a range of black dresses that look great with their help.
  2. Be a little different. You can choose to dress your bridesmaids in different cuts and not just the same slimline dress. Your pals aren’t always going to have the exact same body type or height, so why should they be put in the same dress? You picked all of these girls because they are all different and beautiful in their own way, so let them dress accordingly.
  3. Go right into garish. Do bridesmaids really have to be elegantly uniform and understated? Of course not! Sequins and beads, studs and sparkles can all add texture to a dress. Making your wedding look beautifully different without being flashy or trashy. Garish isn’t a bad thing; but accessorizing is fun!
  4. Pick something that is meaningful. If you want to lean into everyone looking different but you want something to match, look at hair accessories. Regardless of their hair length, you can choose a hair accessory that matches for everyone to wear. Then you have something in the pictures that looks uniform. You can make the entire gang look so much more interesting when you choose a hair accessory type that’s meaningful. For example, if you have a coloured hair slide and your bridesmaids get the same one, you’re all going to match in the photos.
  5. Don’t say no to lace. Embracing lace is a must in your bridesmaid lineup. It can add a little romance to the gowns of your bridesmaids and it can be super fun. It doesn’t even have to be particularly bridal – bold lace tones have just as much quirkiness and will get your girls noticed.

Dressing your bridesmaids should be fun, so make sure that you’re having as much fun as possible with it. You’re going to enjoy every second when you do!
