*I was very kindly gifted this Catipilla Cat Scratcher for review. This does not affect the views on the product.
What’s the deal with Sega?
I’m going to start this review by talking a bit about Sega. She’s an 11 year old long haired moggy, who I’ve had since she was a kitten. Naively, when we got her, we didn’t realise that she was younger than what we were told.
As a result there are a few things about Sega that just aren’t normal. For one it took her 10 years to learn how to use a litter tray. She’s never been a playful cat, in fact she just never really learnt how to ‘cat’.
However, she has learnt that if she wants feeding, or attention a good way to let me know is to use the carpet, my sofa, the mirror (not sure why) as a scratching post.
Catipilla
I was very lucky to be sent a Catipilla Cat Scratcher – If you haven’t heard of Catipilla, they are a cat specific brand, creating cat scratchers, accessories, climber and various types of resting points.
If you’re a crazy cat lady like me, you’ll have seen various videos, showing cat climbing walls, as shown below.
Was it easy to install?
I was sent the wall mounted cat scratcher. When I agreed to this, I had just ordered a new drill and thought, how hard can drilling be? The answer is, overall a bit harder than I thought, when it comes to measuring, and aligning where the holes should be.
Saying that, installing it was so much easier than I thought it would be. Rather than screwing the whole scratcher to the wall, it’s made a lot easier, with two slot in brackets. Please excuse the red smudges – I hadn’t let my nail varnish dry, I will be re-painting this room in 2021!
Once the brackets are on the wall, just line up the scratcher with the brackets and slip it in to place until you hear both parts click – it maybe took me 5 minutes to install.
Verdict on the Catipilla Cat Scratcher
I put the scratcher in my office. Pre-pandemic, I rarely used the room, so Sega had no interest in there. But since working from home, she is more likely to come in and moan at me chill out.
As previously mentioned, she’s not a big player, so I encouraged her along, by spraying some catnip on it. Sure enough with in a minute she was rubbing up all against it. Then she realised what it was and went crazy on it.
Since then I have found her using it a few times. Typically she stops whenever she realises I’ve spotted her!
If you are looking for a wall mounted cat scratcher, then you can’t go wrong with this one, with prices from £20 depending on size. It’s made from high quality materials and the rope is secured in place which is a must – I can’t be the only person to have bought a cheap scratcher to find the rope unravelling within a month!
